Smoldering, PA

in veins deep, smoke breathing
fire below, gut the ground
spent black treasures
under melted roads
houses slant splinter and slip
their broken roots heavy
foundation turned rocks
turned pebbles toppled
pillars stand, crooked
fingers of buried giants
clamouring for air
as fire tickles their toes
hug the ground last goodbye
mist hisses on crackling pavement
steaming haze and smoke
black skies, no stars
no love
from a ghost town
